John H. Armstrong was born in Champaign, Illinois. He received his law degree from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign in 1960 with Phi Delta Phi honors. John worked in oil and gas law, real estate, and estate planning in and around Coles County for sixty years. He and Attorney Janet Grove worked together from 1985 to 2020, beginning at Craig & Craig, then as Armstrong & Grove, then joining Hefner, Eberspacher, Tapella, Armstrong, Grove, Jones & Britton LLC, and finally at the Law Office of Armstrong & Grove LLC in Mattoon, which was renamed Armstrong, Grove & Wawrzynek LLC to reflect the addition of Angel Wawrzynek as a partner.

In 2020, after 60 years of dedicated service to his clients and to the community, John retired from the practice of law. We are saddened to announce that John passed away on September 5, 2022.
